The sites listed here are those I’ve found useful or just interesting in some way. They link you to software developers, professional associations, standards agencies and more. Caveat emptor!
- Ars Technica, Digg Technology and Slashdot – where would we learn about what’s going on in the technical world without them?
- Australian Bushwalking – that’s tramping to you New Zealanders and backpacking to the Americans. This is in the list because you have to do something with your life other than libraries and records management.
- Australian Skeptics – whether you are just interested in things scientific, get enraged at what the alternative quacks, frauds and cheats get away with, or are concerned at the damage being done to our education systems by “intelligent” design and the like, there is much of interest and use here. A bit of evidence-based pragmatism even helps at work!
- Avalon Sailing Club, for the same reason that bushwalking is listed here
- Bad Astronomy, Phil Plait has a really good turn of phrase when explaining technical astronomical things, and he also provides a refreshing antidote to the pseudo-scientific and anti-science barrage the fundamentalists foist on us
- Evan Sanders, web site designer, plays flute and piano, sings bass, student. He does a really good, usable web site (but not this one because I won’t let him take time away from his studies and his paying work), especially if you are into web forums and members areas. This web site is hosted on his (and yes, he’s related, I mean if you can’t indulge in a bit of nepotism or whatever when you set up your own web site then why bother?).
- Gizmo Richards – a really good freeware advice site
- Kim Sanders – musician, composer, instrumentalist. Check this out if you like Macedonian, Turkish or Bulgarian music, Gaidas, Aardvarks and more (and yes, he’s related too)
- Records Management Association of Australasia – Lots of useful information, links and a products and services directory well worth a look. They also host a quiet but useful Australian listserv
- The RECMGMT Listserv – an invaluable source of advice on everything to do with records and document management. Find out about them via the RMAA listservs page
- Satirewire – where else would you learn about Australia moving to the North Atlantic, or why foot and mouth disease is the only known virus not transmittable via Outlook? It’s a pity he’s stopped adding to it.
- Scot Finnie’s newsletter and blog – a really good site for news and comments on the PC world. I read it cover to cover
- State Records New South Wales, who do lots of work developing new standards. They also have several publications on records management, and offer a variety of training programs.
- Bekir Kemal Ataman’s Turkish Archives, including a useful page of Records Management humour and cartoons
- Urban Legends (Snopes) – an invaluable source to help you put out the fire raised amongst your relatives and friends by the latest scam or gossip – absolutely essential!
and more to come soon, check back often . . .
